Bio: Dr. Henry Schneiderman co-founded and served as CEO of Pittsburgh
Pattern Recognition (PittPatt), a face recognition technology company spun
off from Carnegie Mellon in 2004 and acquired by Google in 2011. At Google,
he is involved in a variety of computer vision related products and
services. In particular, he has helped integrate PittPatt’s face recognition
technology into the latest version of the Android operating system for
mobile devices. Dr. Schneiderman has also served as research faculty at
Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Institute and he is the 2008 recipient of the
prestigious Longuet-Higgins Prize for “fundamental contributions in computer
vision that have withstood the test of time”. Dr. Schneiderman grew up in
Storrs, Connecticut. He received his bachelor’s degree from Brown University
and his master’s and doctorate degrees from Carnegie Mellon.

In this talk, I will discuss my experiences in developing and commercializing face recognition technology. In particular, I will focus on my experience with Pittsburgh Pattern Recognition, a software company I co-founded in 2004 and that was acquired by Google in 2011.
I will also touch upon earlier career experiences as a student, researcher, and faculty member.
