A 21st century “pen pal” program, established by Carnegie Mellon University’s Global Connection Program in partnership with the UNESCO International Bureau of Education (IBE), will expand this fall.
The GigaPan School Exchange, which began last year, enables students to create GigaPan panoramic images of their communities, activities and other aspects of their lives and share them over the Internet with students in other countries.
Schools in Indonesia and Brazil will join the program this year, as will South Fayette Middle/High School, Burgettstown Area Middle/High School, Connellsville Area Middle/High School and the Propel Schools. They join previous participants — schools in South Africa and Trinidad and Tobago, along with the Falk Laboratory School in Oakland.
GigaPan, www.gigapan.org, was developed by Carnegie Mellon in collaboration with the NASA Ames Intelligent Robotics Group, with support from Google.
