Barrier-Based Stereoscopic Image Display System
We describe a prototype of an autostereoscopic 3D display that requires no head tracking, no glasses, and provides different views from different horizontal viewing angles.
In a conventional parallax barrier display, the viewer sees a horizontal sample of the image, as if looking through a thin picket fence at a real 3D object, thus providing only a fraction of the horizontal display resolution. In our system, we achieve up to the full display resolution by moving the parallax barriers horizontally while updating the display. The user sees a changing horizontal sample of the display, as if looking through a quickly-moving fence. The effect is better resolution and fewer constraints than in stationary parallax barrier displays.
