Iris, a small, boxy robot designed by CMU students, was mounted to the Astrobotic lander and launched on January 8, 2024.
Unfortunately, space exploration is not easy. The vehicle that was to take Iris to the moon had a propulsion system malfunction. The whole story – complete with the highs and lows our student team experienced – was captured beautifully in this New York Times article from February 2, 2024:
