More than 1,000 area middle school students will demonstrate their problem-solving skills, creative thinking and teamwork as they pit their customized robots against each other in the “Smart Move” Challenge on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the National Robotics Engineering Center in Lawrenceville.
The event, hosted by the Robotics Institute’s Robotics Academy, is part of the FIRST LEGO League (FLL), an international program for 9- to 14-year-old children created in partnership between FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) and The LEGO Group. Since September, 72 teams of students have been programming robots as part of their research in the movement of people and information. Teams also will have the opportunity to participate in the FIRST LEGO League World Festival, April 14–17 in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
